Episode 59 A Widow Maker Heart Attack Could Not Stop This Man

Hello!!! Episode 59 is here and if you follow the Corinne Nijjer Facebook page, you’d know that this week is the beginning of this podcast coming out twice a week!

OMG!

That means that I will now be putting out new episodes every Monday/Tuesday (Australian Time) and a second episode every Thursday/Friday!

I’m really hoping that getting a second episode out to you works around my family in the longer term because I know that motivation can wane throughout the week and I really want you to have that extra dose of inspiration and hope to keep you going on a whole food, plant-based diet and transforming your health until the next new episode comes out!

This means episode 60 will be out on Thursday!

With every new milestone this podcast reaches, I get so excited because it means that there are now 60 episodes; 60 interviews; 60 incredible people out there sharing their amazing stories of recovery and supporting people to heal from chronic diseases.

This makes my heart explode with happiness for so many reasons, obviously because I love hearing the stories of people who have spent much of their lives feeling pretty awful, who are now feeling better than they have in their entire lives and I know that each one of those people is helping to pay it forward and to spread this message in their own way through their own coaching programs, immersions, talks, blogs, medical practice, or just by being a beacon of light and great health to their families and friends.

The ripple effect that happens when people begin to feel well is that their new found joy for life becomes truly contagious to the people that surround them.

The two other reasons I get so excited about these stories and sharing them with as many people as possible is because the animal agriculture industry contributes more than 15% of greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than all of the combined exhaust emissions from all forms of transportation. Animal agriculture is destroying our forests, polluting our waterways and oceans, pushing native wildlife into extinction and leading us toward the global temperature increase of 2% that the worlds leading climate experts advise will have a devastating impact on this planet (think apocalypse…)

The more people out there inspired to adopt a low fat, whole foods, plant-based diet, means the lighter our footprints and the more chance we have of preventing further damage to this beautiful planet we are living on.

And last but definitely not least, the more people who are motivated and committed to eating a plant-based diet, the more people out there who are not paying for the imprisonment, suffering and torture of more than 70 billion sentient beings we currently kill for food each year across the world. This means we are heading towards a more compassionate, kind and loving planet for our children to live on.

This podcast is a health promoting podcast, but there is no point having great health if we have no planet to live on or if that planet is filled with people who lack kindness, love and compassion towards all beings here on earth, so when it comes down to it, all of these reasons are of equal importance to me in the work that I do in sharing this message and I thank you all for supporting me and this podcast and helping to inspire your own families and friends to feel better, tread more lightly on the planet and live with more compassion and love.

Now let’s talk about this weeks guest.

In 2008 at the age of 49 Doug Schmidt had a heart attack in his LAD also called the widow maker as only 10% survive. Heart disease is the leading cause of death across the world for both men and women, killing about 610,000 Americans every year. We consider Heart Disease something that happens to older people and so many of us simply don’t think about it at all until it’s much too late however, autopsies conducted on young children have found the beginning stages of cardiovascular disease in children as young as six consuming the standard American/Australian/British diets high in saturated animal fats and processed foods. This means that Heart Disease doesn’t just magically happen once we turn 70, it’s happening to us right now. With every meal we are either choosing foods that contribute to the likelihood of us having a heart attack, or we’re choosing foods that help to prevent Heart Disease.

Every bite is a choice between becoming yet another Heart Disease statistic or making yourself heart attack proof. The choice is yours.

Since that day in 2008, Doug discovered whole food plant based nutrition and lost over 60 pounds. He is now off all his medications and even more incredibly, he took up running and completed his first marathon at age 58.

Doug’s goal is to help as many people as possible to regain the health that everyone deserves.

Doug is a veteran teacher of 23 years and teaches grades 1-3. For the past 3 years he has been Health and Wellness Coordinator for Victor Central and recently lead a 1300 people from 35 school districts and FLCC in a 10 Day Jumpstart Your Health Program for staff.

Doug also appeared on Good Morning America to talk about his journey and the jumpstart. He will be speaking this fall at the 81st State Convention for NYSAHPERD (New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) .
