Episode 42 is here and if you haven't been inspired by any of my guests up until now, THIS episode might just break through even the most cynical listener's sceptical heart.
Alyse Walker has overcome Thyroid Cancer, Hashimotos Disease, Psoriasis and Fibromyalgia and is mere moments away of being free from all symptoms of Lupus!!
At the heights of Alyse's illnesses she was unable to work and barely making it through each day - one week into this way of eating and Alyse had already begun to notice changes to her health and things continued to change rapidly until today when Alyse is a thriving example of the power of a whole food, plant-based diet.
Her new found joy and enthusiasm for life is contagious, it literally spills out of her very being!
Alyse was on 20 medications a day...
When Alyse adopted a low fat, whole food, plant-based diet - miracles happened.
More from Alyse from her Facebook page: Lupe Be Gone
My name is Alyse Walker and I am a lupus and chronic illness warrior!!! I created this page to document my battle with lupus and how I plan to beat it by the food I put into my body. I eat a whole food plant based and here is why...
Long story short...my battle with chronic illness began over 2 years ago. Up until that time I was healthy and no signs or symptoms of anything going on in my body. I literally got sick overnight when I passed out at work. I had to quit my job and everything else that I loved to do. I had to see a cardiologist and when he couldn’t figure out what was wrong I saw doctor after doctor after doctor who all told me different things. This is when I met my current doctor who is a lifesaver.
I had a total thyroidectomy June 2017 for Hashimoto’s (my thyroid had gotten so big it was hard to eat or breathe) and after the surgery they found out I had cancer in my thyroid (nothing indicated it prior to that). So we went to OU Stephenson Cancer Center to deal with that and once that was all worked out we began to deal with my other issues. I still wasn’t getting better (chronic fatigue, joint pain, insomnia, migraines) so my doc ran more tests and sent me to a rheumatologist who confirmed that I have SLE Lupus (the one that attack’s your organs), psoriasis, Hashimoto’s, fibromyalgia, and chronic inflammation just to name a few. I was on 20 different medications for so many different things (symptoms and of course lupus) and was up to 220 lbs. I was sick, my symptoms got worse, and to be honest I was tired of taking meds and feeling like crap.
I went to a Nutrition 101 seminar in August 2017 with Dr. Jimmy Conway and his wife Andrea but was not ready to start the diet. Let’s be honest, it made total sense to eat whole food plant based but it was overwhelming and challenged my way of thinking (or what I thought to be true) to say the least lol. So I continued to eat paleo/whole 30/autoimmune paleo, etc and NOTHING WORKED.
Fast forward to January 2018 I went to my doctor and told her I was sick of taking meds. I told her I wanted to try whole food plant based and she allowed me to stop taking my meds and eat this way for 30 days just to see if it made a difference. I mean to tell you...in the first 30 days I...not only Lost 28 lbs and over 8 inches but my bloodwork changed tremendously. My doctor told me that my Thyroglobulin Antibodies was the highest she has ever seen at 22...30 days after I started the diet it was down to 2. My Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies were up at 272...30 days later they are down to 11. My SED (inflammatory measure) went from 11 to 6. My insulin level was CUT IN HALF and my iron improved from 10 to 13. The TBII (which measures my Hashimoto's--autoimmune disease) was cut in half and was almost virtually almost non-existent which meant I had almost cured my Hashimoto's. In regards to my ANA, which measures lupus and other autoimmune diseases, guess what...after 2 years of positive results that continued to increase in number...IT was NEGATIVE.
Since that time I cured my Hashimoto’s, my bloodwork has done nothing but improved, I have lost over 50 lbs, and I am back at work full time. My lupus marks continue to be negative and inflammation the same OH, and did I mention that today my cardiologist released me and told me that I no longer needed to see him OR follow up again???
This has changed my life and I am forever thankful I decided to change my way of eating. I have faith that I am going to cure my lupus and that I will do so by the end of the year.
I am so very grateful to Alyse for reaching out to me and for coming on the show and sharing her story. Thank you for listening and I hope you found Alyse's story as inspirational and hopeful as I did.
