We are back from our family holiday in Noosa Heads, Queensland (if you’re not from Australia, it’s hotter there than where I live ;-) ) and I am vert slowly getting back into some semblance of routine… Very. Slowly.
I had some really lovely feedback from my 2 part series (episode 103 and 104) on my journey with food addiction, so thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reach out to me and share some of your experiences. I feel very honoured that you have entrusted me with your stories and I’m so glad you got something out of hearing my story, because my hope with sharing stories like these is that people feel inspired to take sustainable, positive steps forward in their own lives.
Last week completed the latest round of my 28 Days Vegan challenge with so many wonderful, motivated women. At the beginning of the challenge, each woman has to commit to not only eating a low fat, whole food, plant-based diet for 28 days, but they also commit to adding in things that bring them JOY each week of the challenge. Some women were adding in dance classes, some added in date nights, some added in exercise, yoga, running, swimming, hiking, journalling, candle-lit baths, etc… The funny thing is, although everyone I have spoken to has told me that they felt better, had lost weight, had less bloating and more energy, without fail, everyone always tells me that the part where they have to commit to adding in JOY is their favourite part of the challenge.
Let’s face it, life can feel like a never ending shit show most of the time and once we reach adulthood, most of us put JOY at the bottom of the pile beneath all the must-dos and should-dos until we’ve completely forgotten what it is that lights up our hearts. We see it all the time and yet, people wonder why they’re so unhappy, why they can’t stick to a diet, why they can’t commit to exercising or getting healthy, but they’re trying to do all these things from an empty tank. I’ve found through working as a health coach now for over four years, making positive changes to our health and lives is so much easier, when we add in regular doses of JOY along the way. So if you’re burying your JOY beneath a mountain of washing and a never ending to-do list, maybe it’s time to dig it out, dust it off and take yourself out on a date with JOY. You never know how good you might feel until you try it and I promise you, adding in JOY will have a bigger impact on your health and wellbeing than you can imagine. xx
